Yesterday, 62 of us ventured out onto the Hudson River for a tour that took us to Bannerman's Island and back. Along the way we picked up another 35 passengers at West Point. It had started out as a beautiful day but quickly got cloudy and started raining. Many of us stayed on the lower level trying to stay warm.
I thought the most interesting part of the tour was Bannerman Castle. We recently had a lecture at the library about the island's history and the castle. Barbara Gottlock recently wrote an interesting book about it which is available for you to check out. In fact, if you want to take a closer look at the island, go on the Bannerman Castle and Bannerman Island Bus Trip on Tuesday, September 22nd sponsored by the Haverstraw Library. Call them at 786-3800 for more information.
