  • More for Tweens in the New Year!

    Hey guys, guess what? We have scheduled a bunch of wonderful events for you for January and we hope you take advantage of them and come. They are all FREE and FUN!

    The first event, which is a MUST SEE event is "The Great Reptiles" on January 10th at 1:30 p.m. You have to check this out. We are bringing in a 7ft. alligator, a 5ft. Water Monitor Lizard and a 15ft, 100 lb. Burmese Python. You will want to arrive early.

    Then we have a wonderful line up of other events including another Wii Gaming Night, this time with a Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution contest. Prizes will be awarded.

    Is your child in high school and you are starting to worry about "what is this going to cost me???" Come and hear our college proffesional speak on this topic. This is the last installment of our very successful College Prep series that we offered this Fall here at the library.

  • What is Happening this Week at the Suffern Library for Tweens and Teens

    We have a Tween program on Saturday October 10 at 11am for Tweens who are looking to learn how to sew.  Participants will make clothes for their American Girl Dolls.

    On Tuesday October 13 our College Prep series continues, we will be hosting SAT Test Strategies at 7pm

  • Have you been attending our College Prep Series...

    Well we had the first three parts of our College Prep series here at the Suffern library.  Youngsters have learned about the college application process, worked on a practice ACT and completed a workshop on SAT Essays. 

    There are three parts left, a practice SAT here on Saturday October 3, SAT Test Strategies on October 13 and Paying for College on October 19.  Please register at our website, www.suffernfreelibrary.org or call me at 845.357.1237 for more information.

    Oct 3 and 17    10-1 American Red Cross Babysitting Program

    This is a two part 6 hour course taught by a registered American Red Cross instructor.  Each participant will receive Red Cross certification, an official book and other materials.

    This program is being presented over two Saturdays, October 3 and 17, the participant must be able to participate in both sessions.  The cost of this program is $30.  The $30 must be presented to DonnaJean, Tween Program Coordinator prior to the program.  Checks can be made out to the Suffern Library.

  • Hey All...

    How is everyone now that Fall is officially here...It is time to start thinking about those Fall activities - picking apples, choosing pumpkins, thinking about Halloween costumes and taking advantage of programs at the Suffern Library.

    There is a great six part series on College Prep being presented at the library.  Check out our calendar on our website for specific information. 

    We also have cooking, crafts and a movie night for the Tweens. Again check out the calendar on our website for specific information.

  • You asked for it you got it....

    Older Tweens wanted a book discussion group well we are going to have one in the Fall for Science Fiction lovers.

    How about joining a new book discussion group for 7th-9th graders.  Beginning on September 15th stop by the library and pick up the book.

    The Science Fiction Book will be Here, There Be Dragons by James A. Owen.  The discussion group will meet October 21 from 7:30-8:30 with Ms. Nancy.

  • What is Coming Up this Week at the Library for Teens...

    Ok Teens (and parents of teens) time to start thinking about college preparation.  I know it seems like a daunting tasks with lots of deadlines and forms but we can do something about it this Fall.  There are quite a few programs here at the library to walk you through this entire process.

    Register at our website and get informed:

    Sept 24  6:00-8:00 Practice ACT

    Administered by Princeton Review - this practice test will be scored and returned to you to let you know your weeknesses and strong points.

     

    Sept 29  Choosing the Right College   7:00

    Joshua Marber, MS.Ed., will advise teens and their families on the college admission process. He will provide helpful information that will get you started on the right road now and after you graduate from high school.

    Choosing the Right College:

    ·        When should I start searching for colleges & visiting them?

    ·        How do I fill out the application & write a good essay?

    ·        Should I take the SAT or the ACT?

    ·        How do I get the most financial aid, scholarships & grants?

     

    Sept 30   7:00   SAT  Essay Prep

    An SAT ESSAY preparation workshop that goes above and beyond instruction done in a typical SAT course is being offered on Wednesday, September 30th. Michelle Sale, an SAT instructor and English and social studies tutor, will be providing tools and strategies for writing a strong and well-organized essay, which makes up 30% of the overall Writing score.

     

    Oct 3  Practice SAT  10:00-2:00

    Take a full length SAT and get a score sheet from Kaplan that details your strengths and weaknesses.

     

    October 13  SAT Test Strategies  7:00

    Join Kaplan Test Prep as they give you the “secrets” and “strategies” you need to do your best on the SAT.

     

    Oct 19 Paying for College with Josh Marber  7:00

    Paying for College:

    ·        Getting the most financial aid from the government, states & colleges

    ·        Filling out the FAFSA & other financial aid forms and Searching & applying for scholarships

  • Hey Tweens here is a fun fact for you...

    So were you watching the  most watched telecast on cable television this past Friday.  I bet you are thinking what could that possibly be..............It was the Disney Channel original movie "Wizards of Waverly Place".  Have you ever seen the Disney Channel show - it is about three siblings with magical powers starring Selina Gomez, David Henrie and Rockland's own Jake T. Austin...

    Each participant will make an item for their dolls.  All materials are provided.

     

    Sept 26     Recycled Art with Vivian      11:00-12:30
